LOCKED AND LOADED

THE JOURNEY V

Our new custom titanium bikepacking beast designed for general ramblings and extended adventures

For over 15 years, we have been producing top-quality, innovative titanium frames through Kingdom Bike. After developing our JOURNEY bikepacking line of products, including bars, stems, and forks, we felt inspired to push the boundaries even further by designing the perfect bikepacking frame to complement our components. Introducing the JOURNEY V, a custom-made bikepacking frame that is ideal for extended journeys and general ramblings on two wheels.

Over the years, we have crafted several custom Vendettas that have excelled in both general ramblings and extended adventures. As a result, we believed that the Vendetta would be the perfect platform for creating a new, bike packing-specific frame.

The JOURNEY V boasts excellent pedalling efficiency for lengthy, epic journeys while still remaining capable enough to handle challenging terrain. It's titanium core offers superior bump absorption properties and compliance, making it the ideal material for this type of rigid or hardtail frame.

Our objective was not solely to produce the ultimate bikepacking frame, but also to offer a fully tailored ride, a bespoke suit tailored with each frame crafted to your specific size, requirements, custom made for your own bags, racks, and other equipment.

The bike featured on this page is Will's JOURNEY V, one of the first frames. Will has generously allowed us to showcase it here, and if you scroll down this page, you'll discover additional details regarding its construction, weight, and specifications.

So what can be customised?
The JOURNEY V bespoke package offers a huge range of possible customisation, and we are happy to cater to your specific needs during the design process. But to help dial in what we are offering we've listed some of the geometry and specifications that we can fine tune for you during the design process.

As each JOURNEY V will be personal this is meant as a guide and we are happy to chat and discuss individual needs via email.

THE SPECS

Routing
We can accommodate most cable routing positions on the frame, and we offer a mix-and-match routing service. There are three main types of cable routing options: full internal routing, part internal routing, and fully external routing.

Full internal routing runs entirely through the frame from the down tube and exits on the stays. However, this option is limited to frames with a T47 BB.

Part internal routing is a combination of internal and external routing, with gears and brakes routed internally but exiting externally on the seat stays. The dropper is fully internal in this case, and this option is compatible with any BB option.

Fully external routing involves running the gears and brake on the outside of the frame, secured with plastic C-Clips. The dropper can be either internal or external in this configuration.

Bottom Bracket
The JOURNEY V has the possibility to specify the bottom bracket that suits your requirements. We recommend the T47 for those who plan to use full internal routing, but you may also opt for threaded BSA or PressFit, depending on your preference.

Rear Dropouts
We provide a choice of two rear dropouts for the JOURNEY V. The first is a sliding dropout, which is ideal for single-speed applications or for those who need to adjust tire clearance regularly. The second, a simple yet effective rounded "Breezer" style dropout, which comes with a replaceable alloy hanger.

Mounting
This is one of the key benefits of our JOURNEY V platform over other bike packing frames, we will add as many bolt on mounts (braze ons - old school) as you require. These can be multiple water bottle mounts, specific mounting for bags, racks or mudguards whatever takes your fancy. You can simple tell us want you want and where, and we will add them to your bespoke frame.

THE PERFECT GEOMETRY

Here we've included an overview of the adjustments we can make to the core geometry to make your frame fit perfectly. Starting with one of our four frame sizes; small, medium, large or XL:

Effective Top Tube, Head Tube Length, Seat Tube Length, Head Tube Angle, Seat Tube Angle, Chainstay Length (max tyre size), BB drop, Axle to Crown and Fork Offset.

These last three are created by the geometry but we can adjust them by altering the core geometry after we have made the inital drawing:

Reach, Stack and Wheelbase

Sometimes this world of numbers and options can seem incredibly complex, but we can help!

You can start by just telling us your height, and a few ride preferences and we can build the geometry and specification around these, then work out the fine tuning with you during the design and drawing process, or if you know what you are after you can simply send us your perfect geometry and we can take it from there.

ALL THE TRIMMINGS

The JOURNEY range of innovative bikepacking components now includes; Forks, Stems, High Riser bars and soon to be added front and rear Racks.

These components are the perfect additions to a JOURNEY V frame, and when ordered with the frame get a huge €399 discount over the normal RRP, giving your JOURNEY V the complete titanium look, and of course the forks can be customised with your frame.

Wills journey V

The bike featured on this page is Will's JOURNEY V. It's one of the first frames we have made. Will is super happy with it so much so he kindly lets us feature it here with pics and some details around the build, weight and specifications.

It is a size large, with a fork axle to crown of 490mm, he went long so that the frame can switch to a 120mm suspension fork without adjusting the geometry.

The bike has a longer geometry to accommodate a smaller stem and handlebars with a 16 degree sweep. The bike is running 29er wheels with chainstays (and the sliding dropouts) running at 440mm, comfortably fitting a 29 x 2.6 tire with ample mud clearance. The frame also includes customized mounts for water bottles, bags, and racks. Lastly, the bike weighs 10.5kgs when unladen.

Wills Geometry
We have added the geometry for Will's JOURNEY V here as we feel it is pretty spot on for bikepacking, so should you be considering one yourself it will act as good starting point to create your own personalized custom JOURNEY V.
